Atlanta to 30A is one of the most popular beach runs in the Southeast, and for good reason — it’s only about 370 miles and 5.5 to 6 hours, almost entirely on I-85 and I-65.
The route runs I-85 South out of Atlanta through Auburn, Alabama, into Montgomery, where it connects to I-65 South for the final stretch to the Gulf Coast and Highway 98 into 30A.
Because this route is short enough to drive in one sitting without much strain, most families don’t split it into multiple stops — one solid break around Montgomery and one more near the coast covers it. The Wawa locations are recent additions to this corridor, so if it’s been a couple years since your last 30A trip, they’re worth checking out.

Atlanta's I-85 South corridor gets heavy during the weekday evening rush, roughly 4-6:30pm, so leaving before 3pm or after 7pm makes a real difference. Since this is short enough to drive door-to-door, a Saturday-morning departure is actually your easiest option if your schedule allows it — you skip both Atlanta rush hour and the Friday afternoon surge entirely.
